Tragedy

On Tuesday, February 2, 2010, a very tragic thing occurred. It pains my soul just thinking about it.

I got home later than usual. I went to the library after work so the boy would help me with the taxes (and he wouldn't, by the way, by that's an entirely different story.), went to Twin's apartment to grab her things so she could sleep over, went to the store for some foodstuffs so we wouldn't starve, and then, finally, arrived home. It's become a habit for me to check on Chloe ever since her attempt at escaping, so the first thing I did was go upstairs to make sure my little albino friend was still around. Luckily, she was still in her cage, but as I looked at her, I noticed a strange blue object in there with her that I hadn't noticed that morning. As I stepped closer, I realized what the object was. And why I hadn't seen it in the cage before--it hadn't been there until after I left.

It was Big Blue.

I'd worn Big Blue Monday night, and apparently, when I took them off, I put them too close to Chloe's cage. Her wiry little arms had reached through the bars of her prison, grabbed Big Blue, and pulled them in. I'm positive she tortured Big Blue just to spite me for catching her after the escape attempt.

As I pulled Big Blue out of Chloe's cage, I saw the holes. Chloe had demolished the right leg of my very favorite pair of sweats. These sweats and I have been through a lot together. Big Blue was there for me in high school. They came with me to college, and were there for me during the days of the Ten Day Rules freshman year. Through the thick and thin, Big Blue has stood there by my side. Looking at my battered, beaten old friend, I literally cried a bit. And maybe I yelled at that hamster. Maybe I did.

Don't worry, Big Blue. I'll still wear you even if you do leave more of my leg bare than you cover.

  1. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. "Maybe I yelled at that hamster. Maybe I did."

I'm so glad we're friends, even if you have tattered sweatpants.
