Roller Derby!!!!

I've been dreaming about roller skating for days. Maybe even for weeks. I've been wearing my skates around my house all day long. Sometimes I get out of class, and I shoot my leg out thinking that there's a skate at the base of the long, chubby appendage...it's a big surprise when I just stumble around instead of swiftly flying off to my next class. Why the sudden obsession with skating, you might ask? Easy! I made the roller derby team!

Let's be real for a second. Roller derby is the sport I was always meant to play. I was always a firm believer that if I was going to foul some chick on the other basketball team, she was really going to feel it. I mean, if you're gonna foul , foul hard. Right? If there was some pesky forward on the soccer team we were playing that was trying to get past me, I didn't even think twice before (sneakily) smashing her into the grass. Do I feel bad about it? Not even a little. So clearly, a full contact sport played on roller skates is a sport that I was just made for.

Seriously, though, I've had so much fun so far! I've only been to the tryouts and two practices, but I just love it. I wish we had practice every day. I haven't been so tired after a workout in years (ok, I haven't really even worked out in years), but I also haven't had so much fun in years. The girls that I've met are so swell! I'm so excited to have a new derby family!

We have 12 weeks of training before we graduate from being "fresh meat," so come April, I'll get to start playing in the scrimmages and bouts! I expect everyone I know to come to every single event. Even the ones that I'm not playing in, like this one (which is on February 25th):
