The first week of school is over. A New Emilie has emerged. I haven't missed a single class! Yay me! (this is kind of a huge deal, as i have an extremely difficult time going to class.) There is a story that shows how much of a New Emilie I have become.
It was, once again, a Wednesday. The night before, Kim slept over, and Hobbes, Kim, and I watched Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. Then Kim and I watched Baby Mama. I went to bed about halfway through, because I have 8:00 classes each morning. At 7:53 Wednesday morning, I woke up. I looked at the clocked and realized that there were only 7 minutes before my class began. Naturally, I was quite frustrated with myself. In my head, I thought it would be nice to just sleep for a half hour longer, then get up and go to my 9 o'clock class. That was the way Old Emilie would do things. She wasn't very motivated. After thinking those Old Emilie thoughts, New Emilie leaped out of bed, threw on some clothes (I remembered I needed to wear jeans since I had to work that afternoon), quickly tied up my mess of hair, grabbed my backpack, and raced downstairs. I hurried and gave Kim directions to the eye doctor's office (she had an appointment at 7:45 and had also overslept), and then I sprinted out the door and into Franklin. Luckily, Frank's windows hadn't frosted overnight, so I didn't need to scrape them. While I was driving to campus, my mind was trying to decide where to park. I could park by Kiwanis park, which is where I usually park, but it takes like 10 minutes to walk to the Marb from there. I could park at the Bean, but once again, it takes about 10 minutes to get to class from there. Since I was already going to be late, I didn't want to spend extra time walking across the world to get to class. My mind finally decided to park in faculty parking, which is WAY closer to my class, so I wouldn't need to walk as far, but had the potential of costing me $20 in the form of a parking ticket. After parking, I quickly walked to class, walking in the door at 8:10. Needless to say, New Emilie is quite impressive.
Just for your info, I didn't get a ticket. I'm not sure why University Parking God was smiling down on me that day, but I'm quite grateful.
Another flaw Old Emilie had was that she stayed up way too late. I have issues sleeping, so I'd just stay up until I was completely exhausted, and then I'd crash for a few hours until it was time to wake up. New Emilie has imposed an 11:30 bedtime, which has worked out quite well for me.
Yay for New Emilie. This semester is going to be much better.
